Sabbatical Reflections

Words cannot express how grateful Kelly and I really are for the glorious and restful sabbatical time Hebron provided from June 20-August 23. We cannot exaggerate how perfect it really was.

Restoration – This time away offered us a variety of rest in a real mix of spaces. We camped with the kids in VT, revisited our beloved Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, spent different “study/retreat-type” weeks in cabins, lovely Airbnb’s, and even some relaxing time at home. We began the sabbatical with quiet and restful de-stressing; good for the mind, body and spirit. It was a true gift to be in the Lord’s presence day after day.

Rejuvenation – This sabbatical provided rest for our souls as we studied, prayed for Hebron daily, and spent solid time in the Word each day. We had a fabulous time studying Galatians and Ephesians together, reading a phenomenal book out loud on The Lord of Psalm 23, Jesus our Shepherd (highly recommend; by Gibson), and writing two different Bible studies for future ministry at Hebron Church on The Lord’s Prayer and The Apostle’s Creed. We were rejuvenated by a full reading of the New Testament together and through study and writing almost daily.

Reflection – It was a gift to travel and see the size and vastness of this country. For two weeks, we traveled from San Diego to Seattle, touring national parks, exploring God’s awesome creation, hiking, seeing friends, and visiting Westminster Seminary West. I enjoyed this travel time with Kelly. We worshipped at eight different churches (mostly EPC), and came away with deep gratitude that I am called to serve at Hebron. Being away invigorated us to continue our ministry at Hebron.

Thank you for this gift of grace so that we could rest, be rejuvenated, and experience such refreshment. I’m glad I’m back. Let’s continue to glorify the Lord together as we seek His will for our lives and our church. He is good and He will go before us this Fall and into 2027!  To the praise of His glory! – Henry
