The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases…great is your faithfulness. ~ Lamentations 3:22-23
New year, new beginnings, resting on 175 years of God’s faithfulness to Hebron. Let’s pause to consider our faithfulness, particularly as we engage collectively to chart Hebron’s future with the EPC.
First and foremost, we need to remember who we are: chosen and formed in Christ Jesus for good works. Servants of the King. Are we sincerely seeking His glory? We seek to please one another for our good and edification, but we work for Him alone, to His glory alone.
How should we evaluate our faithfulness? Do our programs and activities, our busyness, give the appearance of doing His work, yet not really doing it? One thing is certain: we are not responsible for the results of what we do. We’re responsible for working prayerfully, passionately, and believingly. We sow; God grows. All our plans for “doing good” are misguided without trusting in Him without whom nothing can be good, or strong, or right.
Each of us has a role. Some have more substance, some more time, some are more able-bodied. To do anything for Jesus is a high privilege. Whatever it is, give it with cheerfulness. Be faithful to the ministry God has assigned you. Do it with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.
Above all, let us remain faithful to the Word of God. Trifling with divine truth would be our undoing. Next, we are bound to be faithful to our congregation, laboring for the good of all our brothers and sisters. If there are gaps, we must address them. Then, we must be faithful to the outside world as well. We have much to do with the souls of folks outside the church of Christ. Let us see to it that we live wholly and alone for this great work of winning souls and glorifying our King.
How shall we be faithful to all? Only the grace of God can be sufficient for us, that we may be found faithful.
Happy New Year!
